Netherlands at a Glance

The Netherlands is a densely connected European economy built around trade, logistics, advanced manufacturing, agriculture and horticulture, services, finance, digital industries and international institutions. Its geography places the country at the mouth of major European river systems and on the North Sea, giving Rotterdam a central position in European supply chains.

The country combines highly productive urban regions with intensive agricultural and horticultural landscapes. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Eindhoven and other centres form a network linking finance, governance, logistics, technology, education and creative industries.

Christian Traditions

Roman Catholic and Protestant traditions have shaped Dutch history, institutions, architecture, education and social organisations. Their demographic weight has declined substantially over the long term.

Islam

Islam is an established part of contemporary Dutch religious life, with mosque communities, Islamic schools, cultural organisations, scholars and diverse migrant and Dutch-born communities.

Judaism

Dutch Jewish life has deep historical roots, with Amsterdam historically an important centre. Contemporary Jewish institutions, heritage sites and communities form part of the country's religious and cultural landscape.

Hinduism & Buddhism

Hindu and Buddhist communities contribute to the Netherlands' wider religious diversity, alongside temples, cultural organisations and philosophical traditions.

Secularisation does not mean the disappearance of religion from Dutch society. Population dynamics
